Course Programs

Course Program. Physical exercises or asanas.

A calm mind, free of stress, is the prerequisite for creativity, inspiration, clarity, enthusiasm and team spirit. Around the world «The Art of Living» offers a variety of courses to promote these qualities. Each course has been specially designed for the needs of a given group in society – parents, children, teens, students and young professionals, those looking for greater challenges in life and those encountering difficulties... but the goal is always one – the peaceful individual.
The courses are inspired by the ancient wisdom of yoga which Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has adapted for the needs of our modern times. Course participants are taught physical exercises, meditation and breathing techniques, especially the Sudarshan Kriya®.
Physcial exercises – asanas
You might have noticed that the stress of daily living tends to accumulate in set places in the body – for example in the shoulder and neck area. And correspondingly, to remove these tensions, you need specially deisgned exercises which gently and precisely remove the stress from any given part of the body – asanas. Asanas are exercises, postures, deriving from the tradition of Yoga, which represents a vast body of knowledge about the intricate connections between our mental state and physical condition. Just as daily stress can influence the body, asanas can reverse this influence and bring peace to the mind. So Yoga is not only a form of exercise for the body, but a path towards total harmony of body, mind and spirit. (In fact, the term Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word yuj, meaning union.)

Meditation
«The Art of Living» courses include a first introduction to meditation. Once stress has been removed from body and mind, we naturally become more focussed, enthusiastic and creative. Meditation is not only about deep rest, stillness and relaxation. It is also about being focussed and ready for dynamic action. The more you master the skill of relaxing properly, the more effective in action you become. Once you have completed your «The Art of Living» Part 1 or Yes+ course, we recommend The Sahaj Samadhi meditation program, where you can learn more about how to meditate and relax at home.
Breathing techniques
Though we ‘know’ that nerves, for example, will spoil our performance in an exam or job interview, we cannot wish those nerves away. However, we can influence our state of mind by learning to use our breath. Just as fear and anger influence our manner of breathing, so breathing techniques, especially Sudarshan Kriya®, can bring the mind back to calmness. Breath links our body and our mental aspects, our thoughts and feelings.
Sudarshan Kriya®
The Sudarshan Kriya® is the centrepiece of the Part I course. Created by «The Art of Living» Founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in 1982, it is today a world-renown technique relieving even the greatest stresses.
